So Daniel made it back safe and sound this evening. Sadie was OVERLY hyper! I mean bouncing off the walls with excitement when she was playing with her daddy tonight. She made sure he saw every single one of her tricks before she passed out while he was holding her.
We just put her to bed, after we both had a turn at holding our sleeping angel, and I'm finally getting to hear the details of Daniels trip...I mean as many details as are interesting enough to share regarding a pork congress (huh? yea, I don't know what that is either!). Yes, LOTS of exciting details! I mean, like just a second ago he told me about all the cool coffee drinks Mickey D's has, and that he's going to take me there tomorrow morning to get a treat! Very exciting indeed! He also very nonchalantly told me that he used the Lady's restroom at McDonald's. I looked at him and said..."What did you say"? Oh yeah! He innocently then said, "well the little old lady in front of me turned and went in one restroom, so I turned and went in the other restroom." He evidently wondered where the urinals were and thought the layout was a little "funny", but really knew something was wrong when he actually was in a stall and saw the trash can hanging on the wall! Oh, too funny!!! So he hurried and washed his hands as fast as he could so he could get out before a woman actually came into the WOMEN'S restroom. He said that he obviously knew he had used the wrong bathroom, but when he saw the little old lady in the line at the cash register, she didn't have a clue! :)
Man oh man, are we glad to have our daddy back!!! We love you Daddy!

Update on single momhood
Soooo....you know how I had everything ready to go last night for this morning, including shovelling the driveway? Well, that doesn't help much when we get 8.5" of snow (that was the total at 8:30 this morning when it was still really snowing)! First off, it normally wouldn't matter on a normal workday. If the weather is bad, I can be late, especially if I need to take Sadie to daycare. However, this morning I HAD to be at work on time (by 8:30) because part of our stormwater program was being audited by the State.
I didn't sleep well last night because I was anxious about getting to work on time this morning. We were only supposed to get MAYBE about 5 inches of snow accumulation between yesterday and today. When I got up at 5:00 this morning (very briefly), it didn't sound like it had snowed overly eccessive at that point (at least not in my half-asleep state). So I slept until 5:30 and assessed the situation then. The news at that point made it seem like things weren't too bad. In fact, they said...the roads are driveable but leave early to get where you need to be. I had no missed calls on my phone. Which means work was on and the audit was on. So by 5:50, I started getting myself ready. Once I was completely ready and the car was packed, I woke Sadie up, got her ready and bottle fed and in the car by 6:50. As I opened the garage, I thought....hmmm, maybe I should shovel the driveway, though I didn't really realize at that point how much snow we had actually had (the news said 9" in Indy, but we were supposed to have considerably less up here on the north side). Well, needless to say, it was already late and I was getting more and more nervous about how long it was going to take me. So I thought I better just go. Bad idea! I got stuck at the bottom of the driveway, in the middle of the road. The road had not been plowed (that's an entire different rant!), and I was completely stuck....couldn't go backward or forward. Sooooo....I opened the garage door back up and got the snow shovel out. I tried my hand at digging myself out for about 15 minutes before I was frustrated and in tears and had to call Daniel. He stayed on the phone with me (on speaker phone in my coat pocket) for the next 30 minutes while I dug, griped, got in the car to try again, and then dug and griped some more. At one point I saw the hope of a snow plow coming. So I tried to get out of the road as much as possible and as quickly as possible. The snow plow gets almost to our house and then turns around and goes back the other direction....WHAT???? I was so upset. So I proceeded to shovel the road in front of our driveway so that I may be able to get going and at least make it a couple of houses down to the plowed road. FINALLY...I get going in the road!!! Woo! Hoo!!! I left the snow shovel where I threw it (halfway in the road) and just keep going......I don't want to stop now! I get to the plowed part and it's smooth sailing. I did get stuck again trying to get out of our subdivision on to a main road, but that didn't last long. It is now almost 7:30. So I called one of my coworkers to let him know what was up and that I could either bring Sadie with me to City Hall or it might be another 1.5 hours before I get to work. We discuss. As I'm talking to him, he gets an email from the State employee that was going to be auditing us. The audit for today is cancelled, to be rescheduled.....this AFTER I have spent 40 minutes getting out of my subdivision!!! So I keep on my path and decide to just take Sadie to daycare and go in to work, because I probably will get stuck in my driveway if I go back anyway. I called Daniel to give him an update, and as I'm on the phone with him, Ms. Jane calls. All the other kids have cancelled for today. Then the reality of the situation sets in. It's almost 7:45, Sadie is going to need breakfast soon (or right away!), and I've only made it about 3 miles in 20 minutes. So Daniel and I decide that I better just go back home. Hopefully by the time I get back to the house, the road in front of our driveway will be plowed. So I turn around and head home again. I get to the house, AND the road in front of our house is NOT plowed. I don't understand why the snow plow went to ALMOST our house, and then turned around. So I get stuck AGAIN trying to turn into the driveway. Sadie has fallen asleep by this point. So I dig the car out and shovel enough of the driveway for me to pull my car up. I didn't think I would make it into the garage, but slowly I made it all the way up the driveway and creep into the garage. Woo! Hoo!!! Needless to say, this is where we're staying now. The road in front of our house has still not been plowed....strange deal. There are tracks on it though now. So if need be (an emergency), we MAY be able to get out.
No, my office is not closed. So yes, I will be taking a vacation day today. I mean snowed in at my house in the middle of Indiana is KINDA like being on vacation on a beach with a lovely tan in Cancun sipping a Banana Monkey, right?
Yes, I'm complaining and being a drama queen!!! ;) So sorry, if someone actually read all of this (Mom), for my vent!!! Things will be better when Daniel gets home. I just know it!!! ....or maybe they'll be better when Spring comes!!!!
Here are some pics.

10 month update
So Sadie turns 10 months tomorrow. I know we just posted her 9 month update two weeks ago, but there are still a few new things to update. It's amazing how fast she changes!
We finally have a bonified crawler! Woo! Hoo! Sadie started a 'real' crawl last week! She still does her inch worm crawl some too, but no doubt, she is definitely getting more and more mobile.
Sadie now has three teeth! Sadie had a couple of really bad evenings and nights early last week. On Wednesday night, Daniel was at an evening conference and meeting. So it was just us girls. This was Sadie's worst evening EVER. It was so sad. I couldn't do anything that would make her happy. The one thing that did work was a bath. I let her sit in there and play for probably 20 minutes. As soon as she got out, she was back to the same screaming. So Thursday I got to thinking maybe she has a new tooth. She had really been teething before Christmas, but that seemed to slow down a couple of weeks ago. When I checked on Thursday evening, sure enough....there was a little sharp edge on her upper gum. I went to tell Daniel, and he said, "Oh yeah, Jane told me that earlier." Oh. Thanks for sharing. So anyway, we have three teeth!!! Yahoo!
The best update yet is..... Sadie is saying mama now. The first time I heard her really say it was when she was crying (of course!), and have noticed it several times since...only when she was crying or wanting something. When I would try to get her to say mama, she would say dada (again, of course!) This weekend though she was saying mama on demand! Maybe we're getting somewhere now!
So that's what our 10 monther is up to now!
Single momhood
So I have ALOT of respect for single mothers (especially since my sister is one), and when Daniel is gone, I have even MORE respect!
Daniel's in Iowa, and naturally that means we're going to have a snow storm move in. It snowed most of the afternoon. As I've mentioned before in a post, Sadie goes to daycare up in Sheridan (where Daniel works....about 15-20 miles north of our house) at a friend of ours, Ms. Jane's daycare. So Daniel takes her each day. Some days I get to pick her up when Daniel has an evening meeting or something else going on. It generally takes about 30 minutes to get to Ms. Jane's house from my work....as long as there are no accidents and the traffic is low and I leave work BEFORE 5:00. Today I didn't know what to expect. The roads were progressively getting worse out. Everyone who came in to the office said the same thing....it's bad out there. So I left at about 4:20. Sadie and I finally got home at 6:00! Whew. My usual 15 minute commute turned into a LONG commute! Sadie was sleeping soundly by the time we finally pulled in the driveway. So I left her peacefully while I hurriedly shovelled the driveway (at least partially), got the mail, put the trash and recycling bins on the curb (so I don't have to do that in the morning if the weather is bad and we're trying to leave early), took in the groceries I had gotten over my lunch break and put them up, got Sadie's dinner ready, pre-measured some bottles, and called the pizza guy! So that's why I'm sitting here writing this now....because I'm worn out and procrastinating. I really need to go iron and take a shower and pack a lunch so that it will be quick going in the morning if, again, we need to leave early due to bad roads. I also have laundry to do, toys to pick up, dishwasher unloading, and a MILLION other things to do, that I'm not doing.
Long story short.....Sadie and I miss our Daddy already!!!!

It's cold outside
So it was supposed to be colder today than it ended up being, and we had some errands to run. Before dressing Sadie, we checked the weather to see the forecast. It was 16 degrees outside and the local weather station said that our high was at midnight and the temp would fall all day. So we layered Sadie up.....tights, pants, long sleeve onesie, sweater, coat with hood, and a fleece toboggan to top it off. After getting her all dressed, I tried to set her up on the floor, but the poor girl couldn't sit up:
But we packed her into her carseat and headed out. It was time for her nap, so I sat up front with Daniel. When we stopped at our first stop, Sadie was still awake, and instead of moving her head to look at us, she could only move her eyes! Too funny! Oh Spring, where are you?!!!

Smarty Pants
Daniel and I have the smartest nieces and nephews. ALL of them! Of course they are cute too. So they're all the complete package. Perfect!
I have to brag on our niece Livy. She just got her grades back from last semester:
Math: 94
Reading: 100
Writing: 96
Science: 100
Social Studies: 100

Smart girl, huh?! This was all in a brand new school too (they moved from Houston to Austin last summer). Olivia was my first little love. She was born just before I started dating Daniel, and he only tied the affection I had for Livy. She's pretty special....with brains to go along! Way to go LIVY!!!! We love you!

MLK holiday
I had the day off today for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Here are some pics from our day.
This is from first thing this morning. I hadn't gotten Sadie's toys out yet. I went into the kitchen to get some breakfast, and this is what Sadie was up to when I peeked back around the corner to check on her. She was pulling all of her diapers out onto the floor! Mommy learned her lesson!!! Toys come before breakfast!
Playing on her knees (might I add that I LOVE watching her play on her knees...so cute...she's really growing up):

Clothes, clothes, clothes
Sadie inherited an entire wardrobe recently. Her Aunt Suzanne hooked her up...thanks Suzanne! (and Uncle John J.....though Daniel doesn't think you had much of a part in the purchasing of this wardrobe! In fact, he wants to know where you were when all of this 'collecting' was going on! :)) Tess was a VERY well dressed baby (and very cute!). I think Suzanne seriously bought entire lines at Gymboree. All I have to say about that is....Lucky Sadie!!!!
Sadie inspecting her loot:

I look HORRIBLE in this next picture (I SO need laser eye surgery!), but it shows how happy Sadie was checking out the goods.

I got it all washed today on my day off and put away. So it's now ready to be really enjoyed!

Brrrr...
It's cold! It was -8 degrees on my way to work this morning. M-I-N-U-S.....8! Cold! Cold! Cold! Our high was 1 degree. Don't worry. A warm front is coming. We're going to warm up into the 20's this weekend. Whew, thank goodness!

Snow Angel
So we finally got Sadie out in the cold, I mean snow, tonight. Did I mention it was cold?! Brrrr....it snowed all day today. It is like our own little welcome home present this week. Extremely cold weather and some snow. I knew we should have stayed in Texas, with our own 'kind'. :)
So since we are such positive people here in our household, we decided to make lemonade out of lemons....or a snow angel (Sadie bundled up in her snow gear) out of snow and cold. Daniel called me at work right before I left and said, "hey why don't we take Sadie out in the snow tonight". Good idea! He even said that he might build her a snowman! Woo! Hoo! Great idea!
We all hurried home, ate our three dinners, and bundled ourselves up. Then....we realized how cold it really was. Sadie lasted all of five minutes outside. Hmph. Maybe not so good of an idea. But hey, we got a couple of pictures! Isn't she cute cold?!

These pictures make it look like it was already dark out, but it was alot lighter than it looks in the pics.

Home again, home again...jiggety jig!
So I don't really know what that saying means, but I say it to Sadie every time we get home from being out and about. We're just that kind of cool! :)
So we made it home on Sunday night, or Monday morning actually....around 2:00 a.m. from our Texas vacay. We had SUCH a nice trip. The weather was so nice most of the trip, and we enjoyed being HOT for once in the last few months. It was great! Now back to reality and the 1 degree high temp we are to enjoy tomorrow here in the north country. Oh yes!
When we got our pictures downloaded tonight (finally), we realized we didn't take very many pictures. :( In fact, half of the week isn't even documented. Oh well. I'll post what we have.
The first Saturday we were in the Wichita Falls area for the Littekens' 50th wedding anniversary party. Here is Sadie with Uncle Arthur.

Then we went up to Dalhart for a couple of days. Sadie really hit it off with her cousin Luke who is only 6 weeks older than her.

Luke is quite the little pistol, with lots of energy. He did alot of encouraging of Sadie while we were there. If Sadie was in his way, he would just step right on top of her until he got over her. Sadie pulled herself up for the first time at their house. So all of Luke's encouragement worked!

Drew and Tess were gracious hosts as well. Tess was such a good helper, and Drew showed us how to box on the Wii. Lesson learned...don't get into a fight with Drew!
Then it was on to Lubbock where we failed to get pictures. Sarah, Ben, and Hugh were all so good with Sadie. They brought out toys and stuffed animals for her to play with, and each spent time with her individually. What great cousins!
The camera resurfaced by the time we got to my parents house though. Sadie relaxed and enjoyed some time swinging.

Again, the camera hid itself when we were in San Antonio for Daniel's cousin's ordinatation as a Catholic priest. By this point in the trip, Sadie was way off her schedule and way worn out. She still did well, but it was time to head home. So we did.

9 month update (or 9 1/2 month update!)
Everything checked out wonderfully. She weighed 20 lbs 3.5 oz and measured 28 1/4 inches long with a 46.5 cm head circumference. All measurements were at the 75th percentile.
A quick update on everything she's been up to:
She is STILL doing her inch worm routine instead of a "crawl". We have finally decided that this is her interpretation of a "crawl" since she's been at it for over two months now and has moved ahead to focus on standing and walking. That's right....standing and walking! Whoa, what happened to my baby?! First things first....she sat up from laying down for the first time the week after Christmas. So when she wakes up in the morning or from a nap, she is sitting up in her crib playing by the time we get to her. She also is enjoying standing up while holding on to the couch and walking around the house while someone holds her hands. She pulled herself up into a standing position all by herself for the first time last Monday when we were at John and Suzanne's house. Being around her cousin Luke proved to be good encouragement!

Sadie's been practicing with finger foods for several weeks now, but between her Aunt Suzanne and Aunt Amber, she has now made the jump to other table foods....Cheerios (this is her favorite!), bread, peas, crackers, french fries, hashbrowns, Fruit Loops, and about anything else we can shove her way. I bought a whole bunch of new things tonight to try over the next few days. Fun stuff!
Over the last couple of weeks she has started waving bye and hi, blowing kisses, playing peek a boo (she will actually instigate this now by covering her face up), and just seeming like she understands so much more of what we say to her. She knows who her mommy and daddy are. When you ask her "Where's Daddy?", she will look toward Daniel. She is changing SO much lately. I think being around her family for the last three weeks has really helped her to develop. That's what families are for--right?! :)
My mom says she has Daniel's demeanor, and can I say 'thank goodness!'? She is laid back and just seems to continually go with the flow. She travelled so well the last week while in Texas. She continues to be a bright light in our blessed lives. Each day is so fun, and we're always anxious to see what she'll do next.

From the road
So it has been brought to our attention, again and again, that we are not keeping Sadie's public (cause we know our readers aren't reading on mine or Daniel's behalf) waiting...waiting for an update. We have probably accomplished the task over the holidays of losing our readership (all 5 of you!).
We are currently enjoying a little Texas vacation right now. We left Indiana on New Year's night and have been driving and visiting and playing and then driving some more! It's been fantastic! We have travelled a total of 1950 miles since leaving Westfield last Thursday. Here is a map showing where we've been (and are going).

We drove to Springfield, MO on Thursday and spent the night. Then drove on into Wichita Falls on Friday. We stayed there with Daniel's Aunt Ann and Uncle Paul through Sunday when we drove to Dalhart to visit Daniel's brother John and Suzanne, Tess, Drew, and Luke. Tuesday we left Dalhart and went to Lubbock to spend the night with Daniel's sister Christine and Eric, Sarah, Ben, and Hugh. After a night there, we came on to my parents' house yesterday where we're catching up on laundry and sleep and trying to recover what's left of Sadie's regular schedule. It has been a fun trip. Tomorrow we'll leave to go to Boerne for a night and then to Bracketville for Saturday night, before heading back to Indiana.
Sadie has been SO good. We've been really surprised at how well she travels. She has really enjoyed catching up with her cousins and learning some new tricks from them. When we get home, we'll be able to download some pictures of our travels. It's 70 degrees outside today. So we're off to enjoy the great outdoors since we'll be hunkering down in Indiana for the rest of the next three months.
We're excited to catch everyone up on the developments of the last few weeks when we get back to Westfield next week.

Christmas catch-up
Christmas was alot of fun this year with Sadie. Plus, my parents, two brothers, sister, two sisters-in-law, and two nieces ALL blessed us with their presence during Christmas and the following weekend. It was alot of fun, and we so enjoyed hosting a holiday at our own home this year.
To wrap it up, this is pretty much what we did for Christmas.....
