A Pretty Little Lady

From the time that Sadie was born, we have sang 'Sadie, Sadie, pretty little lady' to her. We don't know the exact history behind this other than someone said it to us one time and it stuck. She now likes to say that her Mommy is a 'pretty little lady' and I couldn't agree more!

Here is a picture of her at 38 weeks...

Halloween Weekend

Sadie had a great Halloween weekend. Not only did she get to dress up and go trick-or-treating with her friend, Malachi, but she also had visitors. Grampi and Grammi came to visit all of the way from Texas. It didn't take long at all for her to warm up to them and think that whatever they were doing is what she wanted to be doing as well. What a fun weekend!

When we asked Sadie earlier in the month what she wanted to be for Halloween, she immediately told us that she wanted to be a purple kitty cat. We were stumped as to where the idea came from and why she chose that, but we did eventually figure out that in her book, Brown Bear, Brown Bear, there is a purple kitty cat. So, a purple kitty cat she was!

Here are some pictures on Halloween night of Sadie and Elmo

And here is a picture of Sadie with her more normal parent...

and then there is the embarrassing Daddy (Sadie called me a Daddy Nun??)

She is just trying to get a little attention!

Did someone leave shoes unattended?

Reading to Grammi

We are so glad that we had visitors for Halloween Weekend. Sadie was absolutely exhausted by Tuesday when they left which simply shows how much fun she had!

Halloween Party

Last Saturday we had a little Halloween party for Sadie and her buddy Malachi. It was a ton of fun. We did lots of crafts, some play time, and a little cooking. It was nice to do something so fun for Sadie that she got to help shop for and (kinda) plan. It makes me anxious to get to plan birthday parties with her in the future! Fun!

We started the morning off with breakfast.....cinnamon mini bagels with pumpkin cream cheese and raisins and a side of bananas.

Daniel and I had some decaf coffee and pumpkin spice creamer (have you had it yet? it is so yummy!). I think Daniel was wishing he was drinking regular caffeinated coffee at this point...the kids were so hyper-hyper!...

Then we geared up for some painting....

We made handprint ghosts on the treat bags...

and then stamped pumpkins on gates made of popsicle sticks to make puzzles...

Then we went outside to play for a while, take a walk, and search for leaves. Here the kids are "taking pictures" of Daniel and I. :)

The highlight of the day for them was painting pumpkins...

They LOVED it!

We then made homemade pizzas for lunch. Sadie was eating black olives by the handful while Malachi was eating mini pepperonis by the handful! Good times!

More play time....

Then on to leaf rubbings...

and decorated rice krispie treat pumpkins...

Does it resemble a jack-o-lantern? :)

Here's one of the finished treat bags, complete with the handprint ghost. :)

Sadie and I shopped for treats to fill the treat bags and ended up with glow sticks, Halloween straw cups, glow in the dark stickers, raisins, Teddy Grahams, candy necklaces, coloring pages printed from the internet, and all their crafts to round it out. Sadie has kept all of her goodies in the bag throughout the week and carries her bag around the house...it's kinda funny! Oh the things that 2 year olds enjoy!
It was a fun day for all four of us honestly. It's nice to get to do these kinds of things with Sadie, and having Malachi over made it even more fun! We're very grateful Sadie has such a good, fun friend to enjoy having over and who enjoys her just as much.

Pregnancy update

So I completely failed in keeping up with pregnancy pictures again. Oh well. We took this picture on Saturday at 37 wks 2 days pregnant.

For the most part we are ready for this baby to make her grand debut!!!!

I started having contractions about 3 weeks ago. I was sick that week with a cold, and the contractions have since died off with a sporadic one here or there. So I am guessing they were more a result of my body not being hydrated and being tired. So we will see what happens over the next 2 weeks!

Right now we're keeping busy with trying to figure out what we will do with Sadie when I go into labor, making lists of things left to do around the house and shopping that needs to be done, and trying to enjoy some final moments of fun with Sadie before things change a little for her...but for the best of course!

We had a diaper shower at church yesterday and received lots of diapers! Yay! We are very blessed!

Of course you know who wanted to be part of this picture. She then wanted her own picture taken....

Pumpkin Patch

Last Sunday afternoon we went to Russell Farms in Noblesville with some friends from church. Our camera died at the beginning of our visit, but a friend shared a few pictures with us....

Down and Across

Sadie has learned how to draw a cross....

Can you see them? When she's drawing them, she says, "down and across, down and across, down and across" to herself. So we know, without watching, if she is drawing a cross.

Drawing a cross is alot easier than an "S"! :) I guess that's next up!

Gig 'em Aggies!

Tricycle riding

October 9, 2010....Sadie has finally figured out how to ride her tricycle...

Perfect timing, just as the temperatures are getting cooler! Anyway, she can finally pedal AND steer! We are so proud of our little biker!

Quote of the day

I asked Sadie if she wanted to go get the mail with me. She got all excited, and said very seriously to me while shaking her head, "I don't need shoes to go outside. I just need feet."

Quote of the day

Daniel and I had a meeting with someone here at the house. The doorbell rang, and I was telling Sadie that she needed to be really good because some important people were here. She said, "It's my baby sister!"!!!!

Things that make you go hmmm....

We're not real certain what this type of behavior means, but these are some fairly regular sites in our house....

(no we weren't robbed of all our VERY valuable living room "heirlooms" :), this was taken the morning after steam cleaning the carpets)

(this picture may not be a line of stuff, but it is a bit extreme....or at least interesting and humorous enough for me to have taken a picture of to text to Daniel one day :))

We are definitely exhibiting signs of OCD at an early age I guess. When she takes off her shoes, she has to make sure they are lined up perfectly next to each other and must ALWAYS be touching one another. She does the same when taking her clothes off at bath time. We are just hoping all this behavior means she'll be a tidy child growing up, and we won't have to remind her 50 times to straighten her room up....what more could a parent want! Now finding a roommate in college that will last more than a week might be a little harder!

Chicago

We went up to Chicago last weekend for a quick night's stay and met up with our friends the Althoffs. We forgot our camera at home, but Daniel captured the above picture with his phone while we were at the Shedd Aquarium. We thought it was pretty priceless!

Other than the Shedd Aquarium on Saturday afternoon, the real point of the trip was for Daniel and Kyle to run in the Chicago half-marathon on Sunday morning. Unfortunately, Daniel injured his leg and hadn't been running much the last month. So he just ran part of it (I think he said he ran 8 or 9 miles.....which would be enough for me personally to be proud of, but whatever! ;)), including the last 2 miles with Kyle to help him out a bit during the hardest part. We enjoyed getting to see the Althoffs, as always, ate some great Chicago cuisine, and made a (should have been quick) trip out to Ikea. So it was another nice weekend away before the baby comes.

On another note......visiting the Shedd Aquarium had been on our list for years, but we hadn't made it there before. With that visit, we have done almost all the "touristy" things on our list for Chicago over the last several years including the Field Museum, the Science and Industry Museum, a Cubs game, a visit to the Chicago Board of Trade (thanks to Daniel's brother, John), a trip up to the top of the Hancock Building, the beach, the Taste of Chicago, the 4th of July Fireworks show on the lake, a visit to DePaul University to visit Daniel's Uncle Johnny's Library, a musical at the old (and very pretty) Ford Center Oriental theater, and of course shopping on Michigan Avenue and LOTS of great Chicago eats! The thing we've had on our list to do, but have just never gotten around to, are a couple of the tours....the architectural river tour and the "Devil in the White City" tour. (the latter is based on the book by the same name...a recount from the Chicago World's Fair of 1893...another recommendation in my opinion! :)) Anyway, if you're ever in need of suggestions when visiting Chicago, let us know! We highly recommend visiting if you have never been before. It is really a fun city with lots to do, and we are reminded of that every time we are up there. Of course if you are ever up there, call us! It is only about 2.5 hours from our house to downtown Chicago! :)

Monkey see, monkey do

I needed a break outside last week, sat down and crossed my legs. Guess who else needed to do the same thing? :)
