Ohhh.....Sadie!

Well, after having three "accidents" in less than a day, Sadie lost her privilege to wear clothes!

Oh, just kidding, but we did leave Sadie in just her diaper all afternoon, which we never do. We just kinda got tired of changing her clothes and it was a nice warm day. So why not!!! Sadie has become so enthralled with her feet that her legs remain in the air at all times. So we think this is what is behind the leaky diapers. Ohhhh....Sadie!

McCain/Palin ticket

I just had to write about this (very quickly as I am on my lunch break right now). Have you heard who McCain’s VP pick is yet?! I am very excited about this choice!!! A woman, mother of five, her oldest just joined the military last year, and she’s a super conservative, pro lifer (her youngest angel has down syndrome). What an interesting compliment to McCain.

I heard this morning that there are around 25% of women voters who are undecided (compared to around 8% of men). So this is an intriguing and exciting choice for McCain. The 2008 presidential election is indeed turning out to be a historical one.

Sick Sadie

We have a sick Sadie. :(

Sadie has her first ear infection. We went to the doctor this morning and sure enough. I had started to wonder yesterday because she woke up in the middle of the night on Sunday night actually screaming. So maybe this is why she hasn't been sleeping well. I guess time will tell.

So for now, we are busy trying to get Sadie well again, which means I was able to stay home with our sick baby today.

Please get well soon Sadie!

Pregnancy tips

So as every pregnant woman experiences, there are alot of things I learned while being pregnant...some from other mothers and some from my own pregnant needs. Recently several of our friends have told us they were expecting (babies seem to come in waves as did weddings.....oh happy days!) and it has gotten me thinking about all the things I learned while being pregnant. So I decided to write them all down because otherwise I'll forget these by the time I'm pregnant again (which is hopefully not anytime soon!).

* Take pictures of your ever expanding belly. I did not do this and really wished I had because it would be so neat to see where you came from and at which weeks/months you grew the most. I think you could really start this at any time in your pregnancy. So don't be reluctant because you're already half way done. Better late than never!
* Buy some pants in a size (or two) larger than your pre-pregnancy size as your belly grows, but before buying any maternity pants. That way you will have some non pregnancy pants to wear after giving birth. I know for me I was desperately ready to be out of maternity clothes, but I'm still not in all of my pre-pregnancy size pants. My friend and coworker, Libby, gave me this great advice!
* Invest in a Bella Band, or equivalent, for basically the same reasons as above. A Bella Band is kinda like a giant stretchy headband that fits around your waist. It allows you to wear your regular pants while pregnant and not have to zip them up. This hasn't been something I've been extremely inclined to wear after having Sadie b/c I just wanted to be completely done with any maternity clothing, but it was nice at the early stages of my pregnancy.
* Morning sickness...ugh! I was fortunate to not ever actually vomit, but man did I want to alot of the time. I pretty much felt a car-sick-like feeling for much of my first trimester and into my second. I think this really got better around week 16. Several things were semi-helpful. I ate lots of hard candy and chewed gum until my mouth was raw from the acid (I guess) in Lifesavers. This helped some, if only as a temporary distraction. I tried the "real" ginger-ale...do not do this! It is completely disgusting and a waste of money and time trying to find the stuff. I ate little snacks all day to ensure that I never got to the starving state when my nausea seemsed to be at its worst. Drink LOTS of water....this really was the one thing that continuously helped...to just stay as hydrated as possible.
* My favorite maternity clothing stores: Gap Maternity and Target. Target has a small but very affordable and cute maternity section. They have new things frequently. So one can stock up on alot of good pieces by frequenting the store. Gap Maternity was my fave. Technically you are supposed to be the same size as you were pre-pregnancy. This is true for pretty much everyone, except me that is! I went up a couple of sizes I think b/c I gained so much weight!!! Oh well. Gap Maternity is trendy, has the best maternity jeans, and they have GREAT sales. I was lucky enough to have a brand new Gap Maternity store very close, but if you do not....their website is a good one to add to your favorite links. You can order as much as you want and only pay $7 shipping. When I was pregnant, you could return anything you bought online to ANY Gap store, maternity or not. I have recently found out that this is no longer the case, but they allow you to return any items for free through the mail...go figure! So still a pretty sweet deal because it's nice to be able to buy a couple of sizes in case you are worried something won't fit. Than you can return the items that don't fit at no cost to you!

Books:
* What to Expect When You're Expecting is a good resource for keeping up with your pregnancy as you go and understanding what stage the baby is at. We actually had this out on the night my water broke because we didn't know for sure if that was what was happening. :)
* Baby Bargains is a VERY informative book. This book analyzes everything you will "need" for a new baby and gives you recommendations for the best products. Do not be decieved by the name. It has reviews of products from every price range and a recommendation for every price range. So if you are wanting to spend $150 on a crib and your sister is wanting to spend $1050 on a crib, there is a recommendation for both of you. We used this book a TON!
* A Girlfriend's Guide to Pregnancy is a fun, humorous book for understanding pregnancy. It discusses things you would discuss with your girlfriends such as clothing choices or gaining weight. A very fun book.

Whew! I had no idea this post would get so long! It seems when you are pregnant that everyone wants to give you advice. So hopefully these tips are some not so specific things that will help in the early stages of pregnancy. I may post again soon regarding more tips for later in pregnancy. My biggest recommendation is to just ENJOY it! It is such a wonderful time and everyone loves a pregnant woman! So savor every moment. These are all things I've learned...take them or leave them or add to them if you are a mother by posting a comment!

Love to all and happy nesting to those pg friends of ours!

We have feet!

Sadie has discovered her feet! She's not completely obsessed with them yet, but she likes to look at them and hold them and talk to them...it's cute!

I think she is starting either another growth spurt or teething because she is sleeping through the night no more. She doesn't wake up wanting to eat or even play. Really we just stick a pacifier in her mouth and she falls right asleep, but it's like every 30 minutes! So Daniel and I are pretty much exhausted by the time morning rolls around. Last night was a little better. Here's to hoping tonight will be even better yet! Still nothing is more wonderful then getting to wake up and know I'm Sadie's mom! :)

Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend....Thank you Daniel for a wonderful dinner tonight....eggs and vermicelli! Yum!

Sweet Sadie

Well, it's the end of another wonderful weekend with our Sweet Sadie. Sunday nights are bittersweet. Bitter because I have to go back to work on Monday morning and sweet because I have a Sadie fix to get me through the week! :)

Sadie was so good this weekend. There was hardly a time when she wasn't smiling. She started this thing last week that when she gets really tired she talks alot...ALOT! We first mistook this as she was ready to play some more, but quickly learned that was not the case when she had the most horrible fit late Thursday evening. So this weekend we knew not to pick her up from her crib when she started talking really loud into the monitor. It does break your heart that you can't go in there and play with her. After about 5 minutes though she goes to sleep....such a good girl.

She has now officially rolled over from her back to her tummy. Daniel went to get her out of her crib yesterday morning and she was on her tummy. We know this must have only happened by accident as she still is not fond of being on her belly, though not due to a lack of trying on her mommy's part!!! She doesn't seem to be teething as much anymore...less drool and less chewing on things. So we're not sure what is up there. We let her have her first taste of rice cereal last Saturday, and she doesn't know what to think about it. We gave her some more yesterday and same thing. She kinda likes the first couple of bites, but after that she quickly grows tired of it and doesn't want anymore to go in her mouth. So we aren't pushing it. I just don't think she's ready quite yet. She loves watching tv. I know, I know, it is supposed to hinder a baby's development. Well, I don't know if we're abnormal in this area or what, but we ALWAYS have the tv on, whether we are watching it or not, and Sadie will break her neck trying to look at it. So we decided today we would get her a Baby Einstein video for 3 month olds (we have a couple of DVDs for 6 month olds and we would hate to use those before we are supposed to :). Anyway, at first we didn't think she liked the new DVD, but she soon was talking to the tv and even laughing and kicking her legs in response to some of the images. It was so intriguing to watch what she responded to...she actually had a preference for some images over others. Quite the revelation for Mom and Dad!

Other than that, she's still just our Sweet Sadie. We didn't do alot of anything this weekend because Daniel has a bit of a cold...probably the same thing Sadie and I have had for a couple of weeks. So hopefully our own SuperDAD will be feeling better soon because we hate seeing him not his energetic self. We hope everyone had a wonderful weekend.

Roll Baby Roll!

Well, Sadie finally rolled over for us!!! ...on Sunday. We tried and tried to get her to roll over on Saturday, but to no avail. Then on Sunday she just did it. We got her to do it one more time by enticing her with her bottle. :) I guess she rolled over then several times at daycare on Monday, and laying on the floor tonight she rotated herself around a complete 360 degrees on her tummy. Other than all of that excitement, we think she's definitely teething now. She is drooling more and really chewing/sucking on everything. She is laughing more and more and is really good at supporting herself in the exersaucer now without any help. She had her 4 month doctor's appointment last Tuesday, 8/29, and weighed in at a whopping 14 lbs 4.5 oz and measured 24 3/4 inches long. She's now in the 70th percentile in weight and height (she had been in the 50th percentile in weight since she was born) and the 90th percentile in head circumference (she had been in the 70th percentile previously). So she is definitely growing!

Sadie got to see all of her cousins two weekends ago. Will and Annie were married on the 26th and had a really fun wedding in Yoakum. They are absolutely perfect for each other and will be so happy together. That same morning Daniel's family surprised his grandmother with a party in Boerne for her 80th birthday. So we were fortunate to make both in one weekend and let Sadie 'play' with all her cousins.

This past weekend was Daniel's b-day...he finally caught up with me and is 29 as well! Every summer the two weeks between our birthdays there is relentless chatter from him that I'm SO old! So it's always nice when his birthday finally gets here. We had some friends over on Friday to celebrate and it was altogether another good birthday weekend. We're really going to be old next year!
