VBS week 2010

Sadie had a great time at VBS this summer. I was helping as a group leader. So in return, Sadie got to attend too! She loved it! She actually learned a couple of Bible verses, and of course, a ton of songs. Our theme this year was "Baobab Blast". Sadie's favorite song was "From East to West", probably since it had the most hand motions. I'm pretty sure I've seen other moms driving around town doing these same hand motions in their mini-vans! :) I know Sadie and I have done our fair share of entertaining those around us at a stop light or two! Here are a few pictures from the week.

With her buddy, Malachi, before VBS one morning:

Sadie's friends, Makenzy and Makaley, joined us this year for VBS. So we got to all enjoy lunch at none other than our FAVORITE, Chick-fil-a, one day when VBS was over.

What a fun week! We're looking forward to doing it again next year!

Mmmmm...cheese and crackers

Sadie enjoying a cheese and cracker sandwich the other day for lunch. She made it by herself, can you tell?

The busy days of summer....

Whatever happened to the lazy days of summer?!!! My observation is there is no such thing when you have a child. With longer days, we spend more time outside. With the warmer days and gorgeous weather, everyone is trying to cram as much activity into their children as possible. So Sadie and I are just happily tagging along and booking our little calendar up with fun (and hot) activities as well. It's been a great summer so far, and we're looking forward to lots more fun time outside before the temperatures turn cooler (and a new baby arrives) in a few months. I am going to try really hard to get this blog up to date over the next few days with all the pictures we have downloaded over the last couple of weeks. So hopefully this will be the first post of MANY! :)

Sadie got her first official "salon" haircut a couple of weeks ago. We went to Cookie Cutters because that was the only place anyone could recommend (and share coupons to!). Sadie did very well....since they let you pick out your own personal movie to watch, let you pick your own animal or object to sit on (horse or duck or tractor or...you get the picture), let you have a sucker while your hair is being cut, and promise you a balloon afterward. This is all for a VERY quick, less than 5 minute haircut. So, yeah, I would say she fared alright! ;) I'll probably just continue cutting her hair myself in the future though (now that I know how the "professionals" do it!).

Whatever you do, don't take your eyes off that television....

Afterward...

Can you tell a difference? Yeah, me neither! Oh well....such are the haircuts of a 2 year old with curly hair!

I'm proud to be an American....

....where at least I know I'm free!

We had a great 4th of July weekend. We started the weekend off with some patriotic pajamas, homemade biscuits and bacon...

oh yeah, and a little ham for breakfast too....

Daniel decided to take off Friday instead of Monday. However, all of our local 4th celebrations were going on on Monday (which of course we didn't know when he decided to take Friday off). So on Sunday the 4th, after church, we drove over to Lebanon, Indiana, about 20 miles west of here, to take part in some of their local festivities. We were able to catch the parade there, which was just your good 'ol all American midwestern small town parade I would presume...lots of fire trucks, motorcycles, tractors, and candy...a 2 year old delight! It was a loooooong parade though. I don't remember parades being that long when we were growing up. And it was extremely hot! We got there a little early to get a parking spot and a decent spot on the curb.... and then proceeded to eat a picnic lunch of cheese, crackers, salsa, chips, fruit and veggies (that we grabbed at the grocery store on the way over) on the curbside and then sat back and enjoyed the long, hot parade from our primo spot!

eating some lunch....

waiting....

and waiting....

and waiting....

and here it comes finally.....

Checking on her treat bag.....

LOTS of tractors.....

The rest of the weekend was spent doing more all American activities such as playing in the sprinkler.....

Picking blueberries at Spencer's Farm in Noblesville......

(Though the vines weren't heavily loaded with berries, and Sadie was eating the blueberries quicker than we could put them in the basket. We couldn't even get her to look up for a picture!)

Taking a dip in the pool......

And eating some corn on the cob.....

which builds BIG muscles.....

We also got to enjoy a few picnic lunches, visited the spray park in Zionsville, went shopping and partook in some dessert and amateur fireworks with Sadie's buddy Malachi on Sunday night before heading to watch Westfield's fireworks show (from our car since it was a little late for a 2 year old to be out on the town).....

It was a great all American weekend celebrating our country's independence!
